What reticle do you use? Empty What reticle do you use?

Some have mentioned that the mildot reticle is the reticle to use. Some went further with the extended mildot (6 mildots instead of 4 per line). Others claim the mildots are still too thick for 200- 250 yard shots as they cover the target (anything from 4 inches and above at 200 to 250 yards)- they recommend instead getting reticles with fine stadia or lines those with range marks. This way you sight in for 75 or a 100 and you can shoot the rest up to 200 without having to click in.

Does anyone have any suggestions or preferences?

What reticle do you use? Empty Mildot so far..

Post  Sailor - Admin Wed Jul 29, 2009 1:48 pm

Currently I use a Centerpoint scope with extended mildots and i have a Nikon scope coming in first week of August. So far from what I have read most in the Tactical Precision Rimfire matches use the mildot. That does not amount to much though as the sport is still very young. Our Southern shooters like the recticle with bullet ranges on it - so they zero at 50- 75- 100 and then use the lines to hit at further ranges with out having to click in the ranges untill they hit above 200. They say the Nikon plex is good as it has circles so you can see the target at long distance.
My fear was that the stadia or the circles which where geared for centerfire would not line up with the rimfire ranges. The comment was just zero it and get the dope and the stadia or circles will line up for a new set of rnages like 125 150 175..

so the journey continues...

What reticle do you use? Empty EBR Reticles

Post  Marksman47 Sun Sep 26, 2010 7:53 pm

Mildot Reticle is very powerful for range finding and wind correction on top of hold over reference...There are already more improved reticles available nowadays...it's the EBR (Enhance Battle Reticle)...The mildot was replaced with reference lines instead of dots and 1 mil ( space bet mildot ) is further divided into smaller divisions for more precise holdover, wind correction and ranging...you have the options for MOA or MRAD.

It is worthwhile to read/study the manual for the proper use of your reticle in order to optimized/maximize its use/application.

1. If your sighting system will allow you to dial out to 300 yards either by using Tactical Scopes or attaching preloaded scope mounts/rings or shimming...then you don't need to hold over assuming partime will allow you to dial the correct elevation to be dead on target.

2. If your available sighting system is not capable of dialling out to the expected maximum range say 300 yards...you can combine dialing clicks up to the practical limit of the scope and then holdover to target beyond the limit of your scope...You need to practice this.

3. Ballistic Flex/Bullet Drop Compensator reticles are primarily designed for high power cartriges/rifle, luckily you can use them in 22LR...all you need to do is verify it at the range with your selected competition ammo...Again, learn the theories behind these reticles and you can add 20 MOA or higher with your ordinary sighting system...

Hitting a 4 inch diameter dot on paper/steel plate at 200 yards is a lot easier than configuring the ammo/rifle/sighting system combination that will allow you to sight in at that range either by dialing or providing holdover...

That's good...in our case, we badly need range beyond 150 yard to verify our sighting systems capability...Any suggestion on where we could shoot ( After Nov. 10 of course Very Happy )

Hi, Where are you located at? perhaps we can find a range near you. Some of the longer ranges are not open to the public and require advance notice - some ranges are not open during the rainy season... There are two in tagaytay area for 200 yards I believe...

Ok, let's see what we can do with Rosey - sent him your email to me about the 400 meter practice range.
No reply as of yet - will call.
